Soft X-ray imaging with multilayer optics in laser fusion experiments
نویسنده
چکیده
2014 The development of multilayered mirrors for the soft X-ray range allows us to bulld diagnostics capable of imaging dense plasmas at radiation energies less than or equal to 100 eV. Multilayered mirrors have particular applications in laser fusion research. In this area, such instrumentation allow us to study the overcritical zone of laser created plasmas. In this zone where the electromagnetic wave associated with the laser cannot penetrate, the processes of energy transport take place. By the analysis of the radiation emitted from this zone, it is possible to characterize the transport mechanisms. We have used such mirrors to image this zone. The experiments to the described illustrate the use of multilayered mirrors for the study of dense plasmas. Revue Phys. Compact scanning soft-x-ray microscope using a laser-produced plasma source and normal-incidence multilayer mirrors.
We have constructed a scanning soft-x-ray microscope that uses a laser-produced plasma as the soft-x-ray source and normal-incidence multilayer-coated mirrors in a Schwarzschild configuration as the focusing optics. The microscope operates at a wavelength of 14 nm, has a spatial resolution of 0.5 microm, and has a soft-x-ray photon flux through the focus of 10(4)-10(5) sec(-1) when operated wit...
متن کاملCompact soft x-ray reflectometer based on a line-emitting laser-plasma source
We describe a compact soft x-ray reflectometer for in-house characterization of water-window multilayer optics. The instrument is based on a line-emitting, liquid-jet, laser-plasma source in combination with angular scanning of the studied multilayer optics. With a proper choice of target liquid and thin-film filters, one or a few lines of well-defined wavelength dominate the spectrum and multi...
متن کاملFirst stage in the development of a soft-x-ray reflection imaging microscope in the Schwarzschild configuration using a soft-x-ray laser at 18.2 nm.
The main interest in developing a soft-x-ray reflection imaging microscope is its potential application to the high-resolution inspection of lithographic products and the observation of surfaces (or membranes) of biological cells. Significant efforts are being made in the United States and elsewhere to produce integrated circuits with a 0.25-,um feature size, which is resulting in an increased ...
متن کاملOptimum driving a Z-pinch for soft X-Ray lasers
A capillary plasma z-pinch as an alternative active medium of soft X-Ray lasers was studied experimentally and theoretically. The theoretical analysis was based on the self consistent solution of the so called “snow plow” model. The dynamics of pinched plasma is determined by the capillary parameters and by the time dependence of electrical current passing through it. The current time dependenc...
متن کاملDesign and performance of a laser-plasma-based compact soft x-ray microscope
We describe the design of a user-friendly compact water-window x-ray microscope. The microscope is based on a l53.37 nm liquid-jet-target laser-plasma source in combination with a normal-incidence multilayer condenser mirror and high-resolution diffractive optics for the imaging. With its high mechanical and thermal stability, the instrument demonstrates enhanced resolution and potential for co...
